How to tile a floor when its minus -20C!

I am absolutely amazed at the amount of work that went on last week by all involved. We have had everything thrown at us and the project still moved forward so a big thanks to everyone. The biggest achievement  however has to be Danielle having to drive on narrow, unserviced roads through ice storms, snow and high wind to our hardware store, a round trip of over 100 miles to try and resource heaters for the house (her first time to drive in snow!). Well done sweetheart!!

Danielle's trip was all the more special as she had no choice. M. Kosubay's merry men have been hard at work tiling the kitchen floor. The issue was it was too cold in the house for the cement to dry so everything would have come to a halt if this was not resolved.

In addition to the great work done in the kitchen this week, we had a wee bit of a set back due to the cold. It had an adverse effect on some of the work already done by M. Senta's wall prep. This was due to the difference in temp between inside the house and the extreme outside temperature and now requires some work to be redone.

We were not ready for the radiators to be rehung but the extreme cold forced M.Steunou to have his guys refit them all and Danielle organized the delivery of 1000litres of oil. This is the first time in at least 3 years that the boiler. a De Dietrich had been fired up so everyone was a wee bit nervous as to what would happen. Concerns were found-less and it fired up resulting in a nice warm house!

Other progress this week has been the wet room in the master bedroom. This room used to be a closet and so all the plumbing has been added, a special fibre board inserted on the floor and the walls treated prior to tiling.

The family bathroom tile also started to go down this week

Lower down in the dungeon work went on with the installation of the new doors. The amount of work so far completed is staggering and apart from the obvious it is now becoming evident as we can see part of the garage floor as seen in the last picture!

The last piece of work this week was the forms for the downstairs landing area

Lets see what next week brings!

  1. I bet this next week brings the completion of the tile work in the house. Let's hope when the decorator, M. Senta, comes back that he doesn't run out screaming at all the work that has to be redone from the freezing temperatures.
